This is my attempt at color-blocking. Blue and orange are both so vibrant but really work together, I think. I've toned down the very loud colors with a fitted black blazer and then funked it up with some black boots.

A very fashionable woman at work told me that she loves my "classy-hip" style. Huh. I never thought of what my specific style is but I feel like that kind of suits me. Classic pieces with a hip twist.

Whenever I'm in need of style inspiration, I always check out Frugal Fashionista. Here's what they do in their own words:

This was probably one of my very first style sources online many years ago. And I still rely heavily on them to see what's hip and current. I have celebrity style icons and when they appear on this site, it gives me great pleasure to try and duplicate the look. Sometimes a very simple look, like the one I'm wearing in this post.

The photos that inspired this look are below. Jennifer Lopez and Kristen Bell. And then I gave it my own twist. Jennifer Lopez isn't someone that I consider a personal muse. She's way too sexy for the likes of me. But this look is relaxed and chic and something that is definitely my style.

Floating and Spinning

When I wear this skirt it makes me want to twirl. So I spun and twirled in the privacy of my own backyard. And then I pulled it together in public. It was really hard to stay still though, I must admit.

I hardly ever wear this skirt because I find it difficult to style. I thought I'd keep it monochromatic this time. I actually had on a pair of grey tights and then I had an idea to throw on these purple tights as well as these red earrings. Red and purple are complimentary colors. Instead of my all black wool coat, I opted for this leopard print coat. I'm happy with the outcome.

How would you style this skirt? I need at least one more way to wear it. I wore it one other time a year ago, here. Not much different from today's outfit really. Oh well.

Raspberry Sweater

I'm really drawn to this color. Raspberry. It goes well with my freshly colored hair.

I came home from my hair appointment tonight and took my photos before getting into my jammie jams. My hairdresser, Nicole from Graph Paper Heart always does such a great job on my hair. I felt like I shouldn't waste the chance to takes photos after a professional blow dry. It will never look like this when I style it. Never. So, I thought I'd share it with you guys. Thanks, Nicole.

You can't really see the details on these pants. They are high-waisted, wide-legged pants with a built in sash that I've tied in a bow. You can sort of see the bow on the side view. They are great pants but they don't photograph very well.

White Tuxedo Blazer

Oh how I love this blazer. I feel like it can be worn so many ways. Last night I wore it with pleather leggings and boots. But I'm sure a boyfriend jean, tank and heels are in it's future. Stay tuned.

We went to an amazing performance last night. The full cast of the movie Wet Hot American Summer performed the entire movie live. This is one of my all time favorite films so this was unbelievable to see. In the past 10 years since the movie came out, I've met some of the cast randomly. I ran into Paul Rudd in NYC and we talked and he was SOOO nice, y'all. We ran into him again last night in San Francisco. I feel like the luckiest girl.

Ken Marino is incredibly gracious and sweet. We met him a few months ago when the Children's Hospital cast were in SF. But we talked with him again last night and he said he remembered me from the last time. I'm not sure if he was telling the truth but that was very sweet of him to say.

I laughed so hard last night that I woke up with a sore throat and I'm still kind of high on the happy.

Covered Up

I haven't worn these over the knee boots yet this season. But today really called for it. I needed my legs to be covered up and then covered some more. It was super cold. So, these boots, a long wool coat, gloves and a huge scarf were the trick to staying warm today.

I really like the color of this shirt. It's peachy with hearts everywhere. How can you not love a shirt covered in hearts, I ask you?

Hi y'all. Did you miss me? I had such a great visit with my sister and her family. I will post some pics of my delightful nieces soon.

But I wanted to quickly do an outfit post to get me back in the groove. This is what I wore today. It was chilly so I bundled up. I love wearing a leather jacket over a skirt. I think it makes the outfit more accessible. When we got home, my husband's new bass guitar was waiting on the porch. So, I thought I'd throw in a pic of me pretending to rock out.

Cords And Plaid

MMMMMM, Coffee

I feel like I'm reliving the late 70's in this outfit. Teal cords and a plaid shirt. It's like 1978 all over again. I can say those things now that I've revealed my age. How freeing.

I have to tell you the story behind this bag. Yesterday I went to pick up a check where I consign my clothes. They weren't able to sell this bag so I took it back home. I thought I'd give it another chance. I'm so happy it didn't sell because it's so great. It's big and gorgeous. It's perfect for a taking on a trip as well as carrying every day.

And that's a perfect segue to tell you that I won't be around next week to post anything or to come visit you guys and leave comments. I'm going to San Antonio, Texas to visit my sister/best friend. She gave birth to her third daughter in November. It's time for her to go back to work so I'm going to help her get ready for that. I can't wait to meet my new niece and to hang out with my sister. She has a 5 and 3 year old as well. They are all perfect in my estimation. I'm excited to go pamper and spoil each and every one of them.

It's going to be strange not stopping by your blogs. I will have a lot of catching up to do when I return on January 16th. I will miss you guys. Be stylin'!

I love denim shirts. I own four but they are all different. I swear. This one is longer and darker than the others. I'm wearing it over some black skinnies. This J Crew sweater is a staple in my wardrobe lately because it goes with everything.

The scarf is a handmade woven scarf that my bestie gave me for my birthday. He was traveling in Argentina when he passed by this little shop. A woman was sitting out front making these scarves. He saw this one and immediately thought it would be perfect for me. Thanks, Tom! You nailed it. It is more than perfect for me.

Neutrals are my favorites, as you may have noticed in most of my outfits. I do like color but I'm drawn to neutral tones. There's pink in my necklace so I did throw in a smidgen of color.

I decided to wear a black and white striped sweater with khaki's and I added my Christmas trench to the mix for some flare and sass. I finished it off with these suede booties and a buttoned up neck warmer and I was off to work.

I like wearing my hair up and off my face like this. It makes me feel more chic, if that makes any sense.

New Years Day

This is what I wore to my inlaws house today. We get together every New Year's day and eat Hoppin' John. It's supposed to give you good luck for the year. I ate enough to give me good luck for the next four years. Good thing I wore this very oversized sweater to hide my swollen belly.

I took some photos in the front yard instead of hiding on the back deck or in my kitchen today. It was so nerve wracking. Neighbors coming and going. I didn't last very long but I got a few photos out of it. I'm going to try to be brave and take pictures in different locations in 2012. Don't hold me to it. I'm very shy and uncomfortable taking these pics in public. I don't know why but it's extremely anxiety producing for me.

The Birthday of Me

My birthday was December 27th and it was amazing. I went to lunch with some friends and when I got home this gorgeous bouquet of flowers was waiting for me. They're from Ally of Shybiker! Such a sweetheart. It totally made me squeal with pleasure. I LOVE getting flowers. I love it way more than presents. It's just so sweet and thoughtful. Anyway, THANKS, ALLY!! You're the best.

I'm wearing a casual outfit for my lunch with friends. But I'm also including the evening outfit. My husband and his parents took me to a fancy dinner. It was incredible. I really have to only eat lettuce for the next two weeks to get back to my happy weight. I've been out of control with all the holiday sweets and general yumminess.

Christmas Day

I'm finally posting what I wore on Christmas day. I spent the day at my in-laws house in Alameda, CA. It's only a few minutes away from where we live. Super convenient and great to have family so close by.

My father in-law has won several Emmys for being a writer for soap operas. He wrote for several soaps before retiring and moving to California to be closer to his sons (my husband and his brother). Anyway, I love that the Emmys are visible in the background above. Also, my father in-law, Victor, took that first picture of me. Victor photo bombed the shot of me with my nephew, Kai. He's goofy and wonderful as well as a talented writer.

I decided to give in to the preppy vibe of this sweater by wearing gingham and pearls. I like how it turned out.

My nephew, Kai, made me this clutch out of duct tape for my Christmas present. Remember that name. He's going to be famous some day.

This outfit is definitely an outfit that I feel is my "throw something on" look. It's simple and easy but still looks put together. I feel confident in this outfit. Confident and warm and cozy. Cozy is a big outfit theme for me during the winter as I'm sure it is for you guys.

I have next week off. I'm not sure yet if I'll be blogging or even catching up on everyone's blogs. Leopard Blouse, Finally

I've been trying to figure out how to wear my leopard shirt for EVER. The lovely Lydia from the blog Chic on the Cheap has been wearing hers in so many different ways. And although it's inspired me a great deal, I just couldn't seem to wear mine. Lydia suggested that I wear it with these hot pink pants. And since today was my office holiday party, I thought I'd try it out.

I have to say, I didn't feel as self-conscious as I thought I was going to feel. I mean, the hot pink pants kind of take some of the flash away from the leopard. A little bit, anyway. It's all in all a very loud outfit.

Because I blog about my daily outfits, I'm much more daring with clothes than I used to be before blogging. I'm actually excited to figure out another way to wear this blouse. Yay, me. And thank you, Lydia!

Tweed Blazer and Boyfriend Jeans

I love a fancy blazer with ratty jeans. I don't know what it is about this look but I just love it. It's an easy look to put together. Putting on a pair of high heeled booties adds a bit of edge to the look and you know how I like to add a bit of edginess to my outfits. Or do you? Well, anyway...

You can't really see from the photos, but I'm wearing a neck warmer instead of a traditional scarf. It's very warm and it doesn't take over the outfit. I wanted the focus to be the blazer. It's too wonderful to hide with a big bulky scarf or lots of jewels.

This is definitely my favorite outfit of 2011.

Striped Sweater Dress

This is my Old Navy striped sweater dress, or as I like to call it, my body tube sock. I'm wearing this vest over it because my co-workers did not need to see all of me on display like that.

I was warm and comfortable all day. And that's all that matters, really. I love how the blue of my kitchen counters look great with this dress. I don't recommend always matching your kitchen with your outfit, but sometimes it just works.

Michael Kors Old and New

I put this outfit on this morning and then I was all, "HUH, I'm wearing three pieces by Michael Kors." It was a happy accident.

The first Kors piece is the blouse. I've had this navy/maroon pinucked silk keyhole blouse since 2006 or so. It's one of those timeless pieces that I'll have in my closet for years.

Then there are the Kors shoes. You can't see them in the pics because the flared jeans swallow them whole. So, I took a quick pic with my Iphone to give you an idea of what they look like. I found them for $20 at TJ Maxx. They are REALLY high but surprisingly easy to walk in and not painful either.

And the new Michael Kors piece is this twist neckwarmer. I recently purchased it from Zappos.com while I was shopping for my husband for Christmas. You know, three for you and one for me kind of thing. It's a twisted mess of yarn with a hole for your head. It fits perfectly around the neck. Super cool idea. I love it.

So there you have it. My accidental Michael Kors outfit.

Lace Skirt Part Deux

I wore this skirt once before here. I'm wearing the winter version today. Because I'm wearing black tights, booties, and blouse, I decided to break all the black and green up with this cognac belt. The brown shades help give it a bit more dimension. I threw on a big warm raspberry scarf and these great long gloves. The gloves have leather hands with black knit arms. They can be bunched up around the wrist or be pulled up past the elbow. Cute, right? And they're from the Gap of all places.

Early Christmas

My husband bought me this gorgeous trench for Christmas. He said I could bust it out early and wear it now. He's very sweet. He had a little help picking it out, but that's ok.

I've been loving the Burberry trench with leather sleeves. I drool over it every time I see it but I can't afford the $2000 price tag. Yes, that's right. TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. That's a mortgage payment. But then I came across this lovely look alike number at storets.com and it was on sale for $135. And it's vegan. So, I knew my vegan husband wouldn't mind buying it for me. But the vegan leather feels like real leather and it looks incredible up close. I'm not sure if these pictures are doing it justice.

The only issue is that we had to buy two different sizes to see which would fit. So, I need to sell the other one. If you're interested, please contact me at theclosetshopper@gmail.com. I'm writing this before I rush off to bed. My cute husband is already in bed being adorable saying, "Cuddle!" I mean, isn't that just the cutest thing ever? And if you are grossed out by that, sorry. We can be pretty barfy like that sometimes.

So, I'm wearing a pretty classic preppy number here. The all black with pearls look. These pants always remind me of Audrey Hepburn. And the classic cable knit sweater is super preppy. Oh, and you can't get much more preppy than these Bass loafers. But you know me, I had to give it an extra oomph and throw on my leopard coat. So there you have it.

I wore this outfit on Friday night. I went to a friend's birthday party in Berkeley and I wanted to look casual with and edge. I went for these pleather pants to make the outfit a little less ordinary. I wore the sweater I wore in the last post and threw on my faux suede jacket. Oh, and I guess these heels kind of pull the whole look together.

Did you guys have good weekends? I've been trying to get some Christmas shopping done. I'm going to go to Target tomorrow after work to look for a few things. The thought of it makes my stomach hurt. Faux Fur Scarf

I've been wearing this scarf at home every single night with my jammies as I'm putzing around the house or watching TV. This morning, I thought I would try to wear it with an outfit. So, I built this outfit around this neck throw or scarf. I imagine that many people looked at me today and wanted to crawl up onto my neck and watch TV or take a nap.

Green Jeggings, Stripes and Cozy On Top

Today is a very long day for me. The day consists of going to work, then to the aerial training, then contortion class, and then out to dinner with a friend to celebrate her birthday. I needed to make sure that whatever I wore, it could transition to a fun night out.

I decided to wear these army green jeggings and cute booties. From there I thought about this striped shirt and continued to layer that with a long cardi, scarf and faux suede jacket. It's fun, stylish and work appropriate.

Many of you have mentioned my pearly whites. I'm so flattered by the compliments on my smile, but today I tried really hard to pose sans smile. Just to see what would happen. It worked a little. But it just looks like I'm holding back a smile. It was just a little experiment to see if I could stand in front of a camera without grinning from ear to ear. Fail.

Just Jeans And A Sweatshirt

I love that I can wear jeans and a sweatshirt in so many different ways. Today I'm wearing a pair of red jeans, a sweatshirt and super high heels. I could make the same outfit look super casual with a jean jacket and a pair of converse. I guess I could have shown what that might look like, but I'm way too lazy for that. This is what I wore today. I came home and took some pictures of it and I'm already in my jammies writing this post.

I love to come home and throw on some leggings, a big oversized cozy sweatshirt or sweater, a scarf and my cozy house booties. Don't you guys? If I don't have to take my pictures when I get home, I'm undressed by the time I walk into my bedroom.

Staying Warm

I'm having fun with layers and finding sweaters in my closet to wear. I built this outfit around this leather skirt that I got for $30 on Poshmark. It's just a group of ladies buying and selling clothes from their own closets. Pretty cool.

It's foggy and chilly here today, so I decided to wear this comfy sweater, tights, socks and boots. This scarf is the real warmth though. It's another one of those scarf/security blankets. I feel like I'm being lovingly hugged all day long wearing scarves like this. The military jacket definitely gives it the rough edge that the outfit needed.

By the way, this is what my hair looks like when I wash it at night and let it air dry and then sleep on it. Messy and wavy or more like bendy really.

Faux Fur And Military Jacket

One thing I'm loving about a faux fur vest is that it can add warmth to any lighter jacket without creating too much bulk. Plus, it can make an ordinary military jacket look kind of fancy. Well, maybe not fancy but definitely cuter.

My baby sister gave birth to her third daughter today. It's about six weeks early but she and the baby are just fine. The baby will have to stay in NICU for awhile so if you are reading this, put a few good thoughts in for my baby sister and her new baby.

I love you, Micki! You are my bestfriend. And you are the sister EVER. That last sentence has a special meaning for my sister and I. I could tell you, but you would just cry because of how incredibly cute it is.

Ralph Lauren Pink Sweater

I found this Ralph Lauren sweater at TJ Maxx recently. It was the color that made me grab the sweater as i was walking past the rack and then I saw the Ralph Lauren logo. If I'd seen this sweater a few years back I most likely would have passed it by thinking it was too preppy for me. That I couldn't pull it off. But I've definitely grown in my style to understand that I can pretty much make any article of clothing fit my personal style. I'm sure there are some exceptions to this rule, but for the most part, it's true.

So, to make this preppy sweater more my style, I'm wearing it with a long tank, skinny jeans, sky high ankle boots and a leopard coat. I'm also mixing in my favorite jewelery that I wear every day which really works for the preppy vibe that this sweater brings. My every day jewelry consists of my Tiffany key necklace along with my monogram necklace. I'm also wearing my Tiffany charm bracelet and my old school Casio digital watch.

So, what shall we call this look? Rock-phisticated?

Same Accessories Over And Over

I find that I am a creature of habit when it comes to accessories. I sometimes wear the same jacket and shoes every day. I rarely change handbags, but when I do, I carry that bag for weeks on end.

I worried about that when I decided to post daily outfit photos. But this is really what I'm wearing. So, to keep it honest, here you go.

Today I'm wearing the same jacket and boots and purse I've been drawn to all week. But the basic outfit is different. This dress is a bit body hugging for my liking but it's so comfortable. It's a risk because this type of dress shows every bump and roll. But the ruched side of the dress makes it lots more flattering and less body-stocking-y. (I know, not a word or a thing!) I love the pattern of the dress. I also really like the sleeve detailing with the panel of cotton on the underside.

My husband comes home from his tour tomorrow. I can't wait to see him and to snuggle up and finish watching The Wire season 3! We are loving this show. If you've seen all the seasons, please no spoiler alerts. Thanks. I would tell you what else I'm looking forward to, but this blog is rated PG-13.

Today I dressed like a lumber jack. Like a lumber jack with a pretty necklace.

This red waffle knit sweater is just the right weight for the weather today. Not too cold and not too hot. It was, however, cold enough to keep on my yummy cashmere scarf all day. I'm a scarf wearing fool. I wear scarves all year round. Sort of a security blanket for me I guess. Just call me Linus. But throwing on a scarf adds texture and appeal to a basic outfit. If that makes sense.

Cozy Sweater

It's cozy sweater time. I love a cozy sweater. This one is great and it was really inexpensive. I feel like I've rediscovered Old Navy recently. Great finds at great prices. HA, I sound like a commercial. But it's really true. I got this sweater for $20. Not bad for a chunky cable knit sweater. I ordered it in a medium instead of a small because I wanted it to be oversized. The medium was perfect for this. A bit long in the sleeves but I'm a grab the sleeves and hide my hands kind of girl. I like where it hits me on my hips as well.

OH, and these great Gap boots were a gift from a wonderful friend. She was all, "I have something for you." And she pulled out these amazing boots. I'm a lucky girl.

When I got the email from eShakti asking me to review one of their garments, I was so excited. Several of my favorite bloggers have done reviews for eShakti and I loved the pieces they chose to review.

Layering Jackets

As you all know, I'm a big fan of layering. And if you didn't know that, now you do. Or "If you don't know, now you know."(Notorious B.I.G) But I digress..........LAYERING. Right. So, I like to experiment with layering. It's a necessity in the Bay Area since we go through three or four climates in one day. I'm exaggerating only a little. Because of this, I usually layer for cold weather in the morning and much warmer weather after noon. And then I have to put all the layers back on for the cooler evening weather.

Today I decided to wear a tank topped with a blazer and my military coat. And of course I had to add my cozy buffalo plaid cashmere scarf. When I put this scarf on, I make purring noises. Stranger things have happened. And you know you do the same thing, so don't hate.

A big whoop whoop for the person who knows where I got the title for this post. I know a whoop whoop isn't an exciting prize, but it's all I can afford.

These studded boots are becoming a big favorite of mine. They will be on constant repeat, so if you need to, just ignore my feet for awhile. I added this textured skirt and a leopard scarf to add to the detailing of the outfit. Lots going on but subtle at the same time. Or at least, that's how I see this look.

This color combination is one that I fall back on often. The neutral palates are definitely a crutch for me. Navy and black and gray. I can't help it. I'm sort of drawn to these types of color combinations.

To mix it up a bit, I'm also mixing some patterns with the checkered shirt and the leopard flats. Unfortunately, you can't really see my shoes in these pictures because I had set my tripod up too high and it cut me off right above the feet. Yes, I'm a genius. Also it was incredibly windy so most of the pics are blurry. Kind of a mess. But I really love this outfit, so I had to post the pics anyway.

Blazer with Sleeveless Trench

During my trip to Arizona, I stopped by my favorite consignment shop in Scottsdale. My Sister's Closet is a great place to find designer names at really reasonable prices. I spent a couple hours there on Friday and came away with three fantastic purchases. I'm actually wearing all three things in this outfit post.

The army green blazer is by Vince(one of my favorite brands!)and it was $17.46. What a steal! The sleeveless trench was a last minute snag. The store is huge and it was really hard to get to every single rack. But I was walking to the dressing room and I saw this trench and squealed with glee. I've been looking for a long vest and I think this sleeveless trench is perfect for the look I've been wanting to create. It's by Calvin Klein and it was a whopping $17.50!

Now onto the bag. I pulled three different cognac bags and made myself decide on only one. I am having serious regret about walking away from the amazing Michael Kors bag I found. But I went for this gorgeous J. Crew bag instead. It's way more practical. I will carry it every day. It's convertible, so I can wear in as a shoulder bag or cross-body bag. And the color is gorgeous. It was $49. A bit pricey for second-hand but the quality is stunning. Like it was never used. So, I was happy to pay that.

I could have bought more but was really proud of myself for being a more discerning shopper. I guess I'm learning. Just because the prices are fab doesn't mean I'll have a place for it in my closet.

Hot Pink Pants

My trip to Arizona was relaxing and fun. My husband and I took naps every day and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Really a great break.

I wore this outfit yesterday. I'm a big fan of the crisp white shirt. It's classic and versatile. I'm wearing a pair of hot pink trousers and black accessories to round out the look today. The pants are such a great color. They are even brighter in person. I absolutely love them. I also chose to tie the shirt instead of tucking it in. I really like the look this creates. It makes it a bit less stuffy and more visually interesting.

This blazer is super bright. It really makes a loud statement. It's like, "OH TRACY'S HERE!" I'm making myself laugh. But seriously, it's loud. Having said that, I think it's fantastic. The cut of this blazer makes me very happy. The fit is great but even better, it feels fantastic on. Like buttah.

Chiffon Skirt With Black, Red and Green

I wore this whimsical outfit to work today. I felt like I wanted to twirl around all day. It surprisingly helped me lighten up today. The day went by very smoothly without much turmoil. Does that mean I have to wear a fun little skirt and colorful accessories every day? Oh well, if I must.

We're going to Arizona on Thursday for a long weekend vacation. I'm looking forward to a few days to rest up before coming back home to more rehearsing. I'm training for another aerial performance and I've been working on it almost every day. My friend and I will be doing a doubles act on the aerial fabric. It's super challenging but the most fun I've had in a really long time. I think I'm strong enough to lift a cow over my head at this point. Fer realz! Once we're finished rehearsing and the performance is over, I think I'll be sad not to be working on it like maniacs anymore. My aerial partner in crime and I giggle and play and work really hard together. Just so much fun. Sigh.

Lions and Tigers and Earthquakes. OH MY

Yesterday we had not one, but TWO earthquakes. I've lived in Northern California for twenty one years. We moved here in 1990 after the seriously huge 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Loma Prieta was a 6.9 magnitude quake. The first one that hit yesterday was 4.2 and the second was 3.9. They were the biggest I've felt since I've lived here. It was so scary. I can't even imagine how the big one in 1989 must have felt. Holy cow. All is well here though. Nobody got hurt. But facebook blew up with all of us checking in on each other and talking about how frightening the quakes were. Man, what a day. And to top it all off? Yesterday was The Great California Shakeout, which is the day that many Californians take part in an annual earthquake preparedness drill. How freaky is that? Very, if you ask me.

Anyway, I'm celebrating our safety today by looking like a yeti. This faux fur vest is one of my favorite pieces that I never wear. I'm wearing it today with leopard and denim and studded cowboy boots. That's right. The wackiest outfit but I absolutely love it. I think it's going to be my new "go to" look when having survived two earthquakes the day before.

Lace And Cheese

The title refers to this cute lace skirt and my big 'ol cheesy grin. I was taking these outfit shots and at the end I just started coming closer to the camera and being my silly weird self. I've posted a couple of those shots below. If you are able to get past my big cheesy grin, you can actually see details of the skirt and my accessories. Plus, the close up photos made me laugh and I love to laugh.

This skirt is composed of a jersey stretch material with lace overlay. It's super comfortable and can be worn in a casual way as I've worn it today. But it can also be styled dressy as well. Love Your Body Day

Today I will be participating in the Love Your Body Day that Ashley from Two Eyes in the Mirror started. Go to Ashley's blog to read her post and see who else participated. Find out how we are all celebrating our bodies today.

When Ashley first suggested this topic, I was hesitant to participate. If I talk about what I love about my body, that means I need to revisit how I got here. Which means bringing up some painful feelings that I continue to struggle with on a daily basis. But the best way to deal with these things is to confront them head on, right?

I've always been an athlete. As a child I was a gymnast and a runner. I started to notice that my friends and I didn't share the same body type. My thighs were bigger. Much bigger than my friends. I remember when I was 8 years old, sitting next to my best friend in church. Our legs dangling beneath us, flattened against the wooden bench. I thought, "Wait a minute, why are my legs so much bigger than hers?" And that's where it all began; comparing myself and my body to others. It wasn't just the comparing, it was how I accepted their bodies as the norm and my body as the odd and strange one. To this day I struggle with comparisons.

Here's what I know to be true. We are all different. My body is different from yours. But that doesn't mean that mine is somehow below standard or not normal. I did that to myself. I told myself that and then I believed it. So, I take responsibility for how I feel about my body today. I love every part of it. Even when I feel down, I know that it's up to me to feel better.

I love my strong legs and my athletic body. If I wasn't so strong I could never do this:

And I'm proud and confident and celebrate my curves and my muscles. Because that's me. That's who I am. And I love this body!

Now it's your turn. Love the body you're in. Don't waste a second of your life telling yourself bad things about your shape. We are in charge of how we feel about ourselves. Remember that when the hormones kick in or your day gets difficult.

Outfit Thievery

The other day I was browsing all the fashion blogs that I love (see side bar) when I came across an outfit that I knew right away I was going to steal.

Kendi from Kendi Everyday was wearing an outfit that I had every piece in my closet but would never have thought to put together. Here's what she was wearing. She admitted to stealing the look from browsing Pinterest. This is one of the things I love about blogging and sharing our outfits with each other is that we inspire each other. I loved her look so much that I copied it to the tee. I added a statement necklace and a black bag. But the rest is pretty much exact.

Anyway, I love the result. It's an easy outfit to put together and it's super cute. Pass it on. Copy and create, ladies! Before I started blogging, my inspiration came from observing women on the street. I would think, "I have all those pieces. How creative to wear it that way. I'm totally stealing that look." The difference between that and now is that I have a venue to give the credit to whom I stole the look.

Saturday Thrifting Success

I've been looking for a great place to go thrifting close to home. On Saturday, I found that place. It's called Pretty Penny. They have vintage and vintage inspired clothing and accessories. The prices are great. And the staff was amazing. I worked with Brit (Britt?)mostly. She was so nice and took really good care of me. The place was filled with shoppers and with only two staff members, Brit still made me feel special and well taken care of. Both staff members were fantastic, I just didn't get the other girls name. Sorry.

I purchased a fantastic sequined and beaded vintage top, sequin vintage dress, vintage Ugo Correani belt($14 steal!), herringbone pencil skirt, studded cowboy boots, color-blocked loafers, a couple shirts, and a vintage Dooney&Bourke bag.

Interesting Blazer

When I saw this blazer I thought it was interesting. The cut and color are great. But I really like the interesting sash or ties. You can tie the blazer to close it but I love having them just dangle. It makes the blazer unique and have a bit more visual interest. I mean, for me anyway. But since I 'm the one wearing it, I guess that's all that matters, no?

I'm wearing some boyfriend jeans to make the look a bit more casual-chic. And adding a huge cuff gives them a different look. And then I had to wear these big 'ol high shoes. Sometimes my short self needs a bit of a lift. And these shoes will certainly do the trick.

These red wide legged pants are quickly becoming my favorite pair of pants. They are so comfortable and they fit me like they were tailor made. And they were reasonably priced from Express. Right now it looks like Express is having a "buy one get the second for 50% off" sale. I think these amazing pants. Maybe you will too. They come in camel as well.

On to the outfit. Because it was a rainy Monday, I'm wearing layers. I topped the look off with this black trench coat. I'm still looking for the perfect tan trench. I think I'm going to search for a vintage London Fog. I just have to find some good thrift stores in my area. I'm not up on the great places to thrift. But I will be changing that soon. It's on the list. The "To Do" list. And if it's on the list, I won't rest until I can satisfyingly mark it off the list.

Heidi Klum for New Balance

I bought this shirt from the Heidi Klum for New Balance line off of Amazon for $10 on sale from $128! It's a super oversized kimono style shirt. It looked like this in the Amazon photo.

They must have cinched it a bunch for that shot because on me it's HUGE. It's like a big square. So, my solution was to belt it right under the kimono sleeve and then manipulate the fabric to give it a bit more blousing affect. Then I added a cashmere vest and suede jacket for some interest and layering. I topped it off with the bright pink scarf and some patent leopard flats.

I like the shirt a lot but it's not at all how it appears on the model. But I'm willing to work with it and see how I can create a few looks with it. Also, how is a silk kimono shirt workout wear? It's not something I would ever work out in.

I realize it's very wrinkled. I didn't get a chance to steam it before I wore it. Yikes, it looks bad. Oh well. I'm posting it anyway.

Cape Coat

It's been raining and a bit chilly here the past few days. I've been having fun with layering.

For example, today I'm wearing two shirts and a cape coat with a thick infinity scarf. I was warm and very comfortable all day. I know that comfort is a theme for me, but I'm sorry. I need to be comfortable. These flat knee-high boots were the final touch for a rainy day.

I took my outfit pics after I got home from work tonight. The weather suddenly changed and it became sunny and gorgeous out. Hence, the goofy shots. I was very happy, not only to be home, but to have the warmth of the sun on my face. Simply glorious.

I found this fantastic jacket at a thrift store recently. I put it on and I was so excited. The color and the interesting detailing really made me fall in love with it. The shoulders are very exaggerated, but that's fine with me.

You can't really get the sense of the very cool olive green with these pics. The close up shots are to point out the stud detailing but by doing that I washed out the color of the jacket. But you get the general idea.

I paired it with this purple turtleneck and these light grey skinny cargo pants. Then a flat bootie to finish it off. It was a very comfortable outfit. And you know how I like to be comfortable.

Hey there. I was honored to be passed along the "Tell Me About Yourself Award" by Heather and Kayla of H&K Style Journey and Piper from Cheap & Chic in Chicago. So, I decided to use this as an opportunity to do my very first video blog. YIKES! I'm totally fidgeting and playing with my hair the whole time. Nerves. But it was fun. I might even do more. Camel and Black

This color combination is classic and doesn't need any other color for it to really pop, in my opinion. I'm a big fan of camel these days. You'll be seeing a lot more in the coming months.

I'm so excited that turtlenecks are making a resurgence this season. I love how cozy they are. I wear scarves all the time. Sometimes all day long because I enjoy their warmth. With a turtleneck, I can go without a scarf. Although, I think throwing a scarf on with this would create great visual interest, I decided to go without today.

I noticed that in some of these pics you can see my compost bin. It was in my last post as well. I need to remove ugly things like that from my shots but I'm always in such a hurry to take my pics before I leave for work that I forget. Just rambling. I'll stop now.

Date Night

This is what I wore out on a date with my husband tonight. We went to see Moneyball. It was fantastic. I highly recommend this movie. We live in Oakland. We're huge baseball dorks. So, that made the movie even better, I think.

This faux fur vest is a bit bulky but I think most of them are. I like the colors in it. It's very warm though. I think it's supposed to be. But I'm not sure if wearing it on a warm-ish night was such a good idea. It will be a great layering piece for winter. Under coats perhaps.

I'm also wearing a hot pink oversized tee with army green jean leggings. I love this color combination. I think I need more hot pink in my life.

Red Jeans: The Look For Less

Yesterday I talked about my love affair with J Brand. I've been lusting after their red jeans for awhile but I just couldn't justify the cost.

So, I decided to order these by BDG from Urban Outfitters . They were only $29.99. Compare that to the ones by J Brand for $176. While I would prefer J Brand over all other brands of jeans and pants, I'm not made of money. Here's the look for less. A LOT less.

This rich saturated red is exactly what I've been looking for. I would caution you to order a size smaller than you normally wear. These are a bit big in the waist and they get bigger throughout the day.

I'm a big fan of jeans with a flared leg. These in particular make me very happy. I love J Brand jeans. If I could afford it, I would own no other brand. It's the brand that fits my body the best. Never any gaping at the waist. Just enough stretch to make them very comfortable and easy to move in. So, I'm putting this out there, J Brand executives, I'm your woman. I could be your spokesperson. And you could give me tons of free jeans. Ok? We on the same page?

Can you imagine? I see other style bloggers out there getting tons of swag. I'm so impressed and very jealous. Aren't you? Maybe you're one of the people that gets swag. If you are, what does it feel like? Do you feel like a princess?

Saturday Wedding

This is what I wore to a wedding on Saturday. It was held at a National Park. So, it was outside and the weather was a bit strange. I really struggled with what to wear. I needed to be able to walk up and down a trail, so the shoes had to be comfortable. I had to plan for cold or hot weather, depending on the fog. If the area is socked in with fog, it's freezing. But if the fog rolls away, it's super hot. I decided to wear this camel sheath with some fun fishnets, my nice suede jacket and wedge booties.

I steamed the dress. Put it on. Sat down to put on my shoes. Stood up and looked in the mirror only to see that the dress wrinkled from sitting for two seconds. Oh well. I just had to go with it.

My titles are going to just be the colors I'm wearing. I can't be more creative than that for now.

The color description for this blouse said jade but it looks more like seafoam green, doesn't it? Oh well, I still love it. I'm wearing this flow-y top with some navy cargo skinnies. It was cold this morning so I also wore a nice patterned long cardigan and infinity scarf. It got really hot later. I regretted not having a cooler layer underneath this blouse. I would have loved to be in just a tank at the end of the day. But alas, I suffered through it.

I'm working on a fun remixing project this weekend. I'm super excited. I'll tell you more at a later date.

I called this my "ventilation" shirt today. It was perfect for our hot weather. I stayed cool all day because of the slits on the sleeves and leaving the back loose let air flow through the shirt. Sounds weird, but it was really helpful. And cute, don't ya think?

I'm wearing another pair of distressed jeans today. Yesterday's pair was a boyfriend cut, nice and baggy. But these are skinny jeans. They are very comfortable and I really like the way they look. These pictures don't really capture how well they fit me, which is strange because in the mirror they look great. Or is it that I'm still using my magic mirror that tells me everything I wear looks amazing? Hmmm.

White Maxi

While most of you are starting to have fall weather, we're are just now getting our summer weather in Northern California. It's glorious and hot here right now. I'm loving every minute of it. I complained all summer about our cold weather so I can shut up about it now. Aren't you thrilled?

I'm wearing this white maxi skirt I bought from the Gap months ago. And yes, I know it's after labor day and I'm wearing white. The “No White After Labor Day” rule started in the late 1800s as a way to tell the difference between the emerging middle class and nouveau riche from the upper, old money classes. This is just not the case anymore. And the old rule is, quite frankly, ridiculous. White is a year round color now. I'm contemplating getting a white faux fur vest to wear during the winter as well. I would draw the line at white pumps. But that's just me. I wouldn't wear a white pump, ever. Not that there's anything wrong with them. Just not my aesthetic.

So wear white you guys. Let the "No White After Labor Day" archaic rule be damned.

Leopard Pants

Leopard clothing is hot right now. I found these leopard pants at Zara and fell in love. They are more like jeggings. I'm excited to figure out some fun ways to wear them. I wore them here with a long denim blouse for a super casual look. But I think I might rock them at a rock show this weekend. Maybe it's too literal to wear them to a rock show, though. We'll see.

Military Vest Again

I keep finding new ways to wear this military vest. It's just so versatile. I was putting together this outfit and I felt like it needed a third piece to finish the look. Even though the outfit is a bit dressy, I thought the vest would be a nice neutralizing piece. If that makes any sense.

These pants are like wearing pajamas. They are so comfortable yet chic at the same time. Comfort is always my top priority. I'm definitely an advocate for easy, simple, comfortable pieces. And this outfit is exactly that.

Pump It Up

Pump pump pump it up! I found these pumps at TJ Maxx for NINE dollars! That's right. Nine dollars. And they're Calvin Klein too. They are the most comfortable pumps I've ever worn. They don't cut into my foot anywhere. They are easy to walk in. I think I could easily Sex And The City in these pumps. That's code for "run down the street".

I'm wearing jeggings and a striped blouse and long cardigan today. I love the look of this outfit with the pumps. I think the shoe makes this casual outfit more classy. I also decided to punch it up a bit with this very red scarf. You can't really see in these pictures, but there are flecks of sparkly red thread in this infinity scarf. The color is so rich and the fabric is super soft. It's like wearing a blanket around your neck. But in a good way. Not that you'd ever wear a blanket around your neck. Just forget it! I'm terrible at explaining these things. Trust me, it's comfy.

Do not adjust your settings. My hair is a slightly different color. I had it done last night. I absolutely love it. Nicole at Graph Paper Heart is my hairstylist and she's also a fashion blogger. She's a genius when it comes to cut and color. Go check out her blog!

On Tuesday I wore an all red outfit and then finished it off with a rust/mustard colored sweater. Then today I was super inspired by this outfit that Katie Holmes wore on the Tonight Show. And it's the same exact color combination. I almost wore my high heeled loafers like hers too, but I have to walk a lot today so I decided to wear these cute flat booties instead.

I've been loving the monochromatic trends. And red is a big color trend for Fall, so I thought I'd try dressing in all red. Well, the sweater isn't red, but I tried. The sweater is a weird mix of mustard, rust and brown.

I wore my leopard peep-toe pumps to work on Friday. I was putting this outfit together and I just couldn't resist these shoes purring at me from the back of my closet. I gave in but halfway through the day I remembered why I don't wear them. They slip off the back of my foot while I'm walking. This is a problem. You know the kind? Where you have to curl your toes just right to keep the shoe from falling off or kicking it across the room with every step? It's a could calf workout though.

So, back in my closet they go for another long cat nap. Then I will forget why I'm not wearing them, wear them, remember they are defective, and so on. And so on....

I'm wearing a simple skinny cargo pant with a denim shirt today. Tres Simple. Most of the day I actually wore the scarf that you see hanging on the banister next to me. But when I got home from work it was too hot to keep it on for the shots. So I draped it on the banister for a bit of decoration to my otherwise boring deck.

I wore these glasses all day today just for fun. Not the sunglasses, the regular ones. A couple of people I work with said, "I didn't know you wore glasses." To which I replied, "I don't. These are just for fun." I got the same reaction from several people. They said, "You're funny." What does that mean? It made me laugh.

I went to a party on Saturday night and this is what I wore. I'm a big fan of a crisp white shirt. It's classic and always looks chic. I decided to knot it instead of tucking it to give it a different look. I'm also wearing a classic black trouser. But these slacks have some zipper detailing that makes them look a bit edgy. I was really happy with the outfit.

Vacation, All I Ever Wanted

What an amazing trip we had. The Outer Banks, North Carolina. I'd never even heard of it before my brother suggested that we all meet there for a week of fun in the sun. And it was gorgeous. The beach, the amazing house we rented, the weather.....magnificent.

We had so much fun with our nephews and nieces. And of course, with all the adults. But hanging out with the kids was pretty incredible. Ian and I don't have kids so we really enjoy the chance to experience their highs and lows. And my nieces and nephews are all very funny and very smart, in my opinion. My brother has two sets of twins ages 13 and 23. He has a gift. Anyway, all in all we had this range of ages to hang with: 2,5,11,13,16 and 23........and I won't add the adults ages to protect the innocent.

Sadly, I didn't take many photos while I was there. I was having too much fun and just kept forgetting to carry my camera around with me. But here's a pic of all the kids.

I've really been into mixing manly pieces with girly pieces lately. I've noticed it in a bunch of my recent outfit posts. I think it might just be my style. Although it worries me to pick one style and claim it as my own when there's so much to choose from and so many ways to wear it all. So, this is my current style choice. Yeah, I like that. It's my "style choice". That way, I can just switch it up whenever I want. And be all, "That's my choice!" Oh man, I need more sleep. Sorry you had to be a part of my inner ramblings.

This post is titled Grey and Blue. It not only describes the colors in my outfit but the colors of our sky today. We had grey skies for most of the day and then beautiful blue skies in the afternoon. I prefer blue, if the powers that set weather are listening.

I took these pics immediately after my hair appointment tonight. So, my hair has a very blown straight look. I can never achieve this on my own. I just have too much hair and it would take forever. This post is especially for Dimi from Little Witches/Tiny Wizards. I was the lucky winner of a beautiful bracelet that she made for answering a question correctly on her blog. Dimi lives in Greece and I long to go there someday and meet her in person. You should all go and visit her blog if you haven't already.

Red Jeans: Two Ways

I love these red jeans. I've worn them a few different ways. I'm posting pics from two separate days. Both days I wore them with a denim shirt but they are two totally different shirts. One day with casual flats and my hair in a bun. The next time I wore them with super high platforms and my hair down and messy. I think it works both ways. With a bright red jean, it's easy to only see one way to wear them, but I'm trying to find as many ways as possible.

I was very inspired by Lindsey from Saucy Glossie with this outfit of neutrals. If you read my blog you know that I'm really drawn to earthy neutral tones. So, I decided to go shopping in my closet and make an outfit similar to Lindsey's. Here's my attempt and I have to say, I really love it. I'm a huge fan of Lindsey's style. She's definitely one of the bloggers that I get lots of outfit inspiration from.

Navy Jacket

I put this outfit together after I found this navy jacket hiding in my coat closet. It's such a great fit and the perfect weight for our weird weather. I decided to wear a very dark wide-legged denim with the jacket. It almost looks like a suit. But I like the silhouette it creates.

Throwing on the hat was an afterthought. I think I'm becoming a hat person. I used to hate how I looked in hats. I would declare, "I look terrible in hats. Can't wear them at all." Why did I think that? They don't look terrible. It's funny how my perspective has changed over the years. And especially over this one year that I've been posting outfit photos on this blog. I am really up for trying all kinds of things I didn't think I could wear before. It's all about having an open mind, I guess.

This is a jumper that I run around the house in sometimes with flip flops when it's hot out. I was playing dress-up with it the other day and loved my husbands reaction. So, I decided to take some pics and share them with you guys.

Running Errands Look

I love weekends. I like to wake up and throw on a comfy outfit and go run errands. By comfy outfit, I don't mean sweats or pajamas. I really have seen women in pajamas at the grocery store. I don't get it. It takes the same amount of time to grab a pair of jeans, nicely fitted tee and a wrap or jacket. I don't mind flip flops as long as they aren't plastic. Wear the spongy plastic ones at the beach. Find a pair of cute metallic ones to run errands. I found the ones I'm wearing at Nordstrom a few years back.

Since I went to bed with wet hair, I threw on a hat to hide all the weird bumps and crazy shapes my hair ended up in. I'm actually wearing two sweaters. The striped one is a cap-sleeved wrap. The black one is a hand-me-down from my mother in-law. I stole it from her give-away bag. Well, stole it while she was looking and told her I was taking it. So, kind of stealing it. But I liked how the two sweaters looked piled on top of each other.

Anyway, I thought I'd post this very casual running errands look because I usually post my every day dressier outfits. This is me dressed way down.

Weather Change...Again

We've had lovely warm weather all week. But alas, as it does here, that comes to an end. The sun is out and shining at least. But this morning it was overcast and chilly. So, I decided to cover my tootsies with these gray boots. Gray, to match the gray skies. And I had to get cozy with a jacket. OH, I should say that this jacket is my absolute favorite of all my blazers. It's the exaggerated shoulder, I think. I feel like it makes my broad shoulders look less manly. I could be wrong. But I love it.

I'm also wearing another pleated skirt. This is actually a dress that I threw a tee over and belted. I love this sapphire blue color. It's a happy color for me. I seem to pair sapphire blue with rich pinks. I really dig that color combination.

I love these high-waisted jeans with the huge flared legs. They remind me of Farrah Fawcet. What a beauty she was.

Speaking of Farrah. Who's watching the new reality show with Tatum and Ryan O'Neal on OWN? Holy cow. I can't get enough. I'm the same age as Tatum and I grew up as her best friend, in my awesome fantasy world. I've wondered what happened to her all these years and this show is feeding that voyeur in me that needs to know. Ryan is such an ass but it's fun to watch him start to sort of see that. They are both a hot mess. A hot mess that I will tune in to see once a week till the show ends.

Nude Dress Part Four

I've worn this dress a few different ways. Like here and here and here. I love the pleats and the feel of this dress. It appears in every case I've worn it with black. Next time I'll wear it with color. I like a challenge.

It's finally hot again. I'm not sure how long this wonderful heat will stay with us, but I'm eating it up!

Since I've been neglecting my blog for about a week now, I totally missed my one year anniversary of posting outfit photos. July 17, 2010 was my very first outfit post. Hurray! It's been a lot of fun. Especially getting to know other fashion bloggers along the way. I'm so grateful for the friendships I've gained from this community of bloggers.

Prep Work

I'm sorry I've been absent all week. But I have good reasons. Swear.

1. It's freezing and I've been bummed by the weather and completely unmotivated to blog. But the weather is supposed to get back to warmth this weekend and into next week. Please, baby Jesus.

2. I'm performing an aerial silks act tomorrow night. I've been training and working my butt off to get ready for the performance. It's exhausting mentally and physically. So, that's also kept me from blogging. I'm thinking about sharing the video of my performance with all of you. But I'm feeling shy about it. No lie. And this would sound very weird to you if you knew me in person. I'm anything but shy. So, not sure what the hesitation is. But there you have it. Anyway, wish me luck. I'm very excited about the routine I choreographed and even more excited to perform it.

You might ask yourself, "Wait, why is Tracy posting outfit shots from this past winter?" Well, it's because I'm not. I'm posting pics from today. It's mid July and it's FREEZING here. Last week was hot and glorious and now it's winter again. Now you know why I get so excited to have heat. No matter how hot it gets. I love it. And it's because it's rare during the summer months to actually have summer weather in Northern California. You guys are so lucky to get three months of hot summer weather. I'm so bitter about this. I mean, I love living here but I hate this part. Hate it.
